Grow your own Italian herb garden.

Basil is a well know Italian herb and useful in many Italian recipes.  Did you know that planting basil next to your peppers and tomatoes will actually improve their flavor?  Here is another bonus basil will also repel flies and mosquitoes.

Parsley is a relatively hard herb plant to grow but it is useful in not only Italian dishes.  Eating raw parsley after a meal will help rid the bad breath left over from enjoying a flavorful meal.  This is a tradition lives today by using parsley as a garnish on a variety of meals.

Oregano is as flavorful as it is decorative.  When it is fully mature it will sprout pretty little purple flowers.  Oregano should not be harvested until it has flowered as this is when the plant is most flavorful.

Fennel is famous for its seeds that enhance the flavors of Italian sausage.  The interesting thing about fennel is that the plant looses its flavor as it matures.  It is a perennial plant that should be divided and replanted every few years to savor its flavor.

Like basil, rosemary is an Italian herb that is beneficial to the garden.  It grows into a large shrub that spouts pretty little blue flowers.  It helps the garden by attracting bees.

Garlic is the most used herd in Italian cuisines. No Italian herb garden would be complete without this valuable herb.  Garlic gloves can be planted and will thrive in just about any garden.

Sage is used in Italian dishes from meats to salads.  New shoots of the plant contain the most flavors, by keeping them trim.  New shoots will be encouraged to grow.  Sage can be harvested after it blooms.

Although there are so many more herbs that can be Included in your home herb garden, and if you don’t have room to plant a big garden think about a kitchen herb garden, a window herb garden, a  potted herb garden or you can use herb garden kits they are great for beginners.

If you have particular herbs that you are interested in growing then herb garden kits would be the way to go if you don’t have a big yard.

Blueberries are completely natural and absolutely great for pet dog. Dogs can eat blueberries and seem to love them due to their sugary flavor! If you find that you have abundance of berries you can freeze them, they make excellent treats for both you and your dog!

Use as an occasional treat, not a daily supplement. Giving too many blueberries may result in gastric upset and diarrhea, The amount to give your dog would depend on their body weight. Nevertheless, ten blueberries or less should be fine for a large or medium dog but give less for a small dog.

Giving Your Dog Blueberries

You want to wash the raw berries before giving them to your pet. Make sure that the berries are clean and fresh. You don’t want feed old or moldy ones. If you wouldn’t eat them, neither should they. You can also freeze them as they make a great crunch treat and make not make as much mess. What you don’t want to do is give them blueberries that have been put in pies or muffins or give them some of your morning pancakes. The berries would be fine it is the other part the “human food’ which causes a high sugar count that they don’t need.

There has been quite a bit of research done that a blueberry-enriched diet may improve cognitive function in older dogs. Because blueberries are rich in natural antioxidants and that plays an important role in preventing a increase of oxidative damage in brain aging. Actually, studies have shown that older dogs that consume blueberries and other antioxidants over several years are more able to perform tasks, and learn new ones, than old dogs that were fed an average diet.
